LightSpeed Web Store 2.0 from Xsilva Systems gives retailers visually stunning online presence

E-commerce solution offers elegant design and intuitive interface

Montreal, Canada – November 18, 2008 – Xsilva Systems Inc., maker of a comprehensive suite of retail tools tailored for the Mac, today announced the expansion of the e-commerce capabilities of its flagship LightSpeed portfolio with the upcoming release of Web Store 2.0.

LightSpeed Web Store provides retailers with a visually stunning PHP- and CSS-based e-commerce site that engages online shoppers with fully customizable templates. Visitors to a retail site employing Web Store are greeted by rich product visuals and a clean design that delivers an elegant and stylish look and feel inspired by Apple Inc.’s online store.

For Web Store 2.0, Xsilva’s development team has rebuilt the application from the ground up with a database-driven system that offers retailers a host of new features with an easy-to-use and intuitive interface. Web Store 2.0 features a SQL database server back end that allows individual customer accounts and secure customer logins. Customers can now create and manage their own accounts and easily track their history.

“With LightSpeed Web Store 2.0, we are offering retailers a host of new features that will enrich the customer shopping experience and increase revenue per customer, such as support for cross-selling of related products,” said Dax Dasilva, founder, CEO and vice-president, development at Xsilva Systems. “Web Store 2.0 allows retailers to enhance their online presence with a solution that is easy to implement and maintain with the simple, click-drag-and-drop interface of LightSpeed.”

LightSpeed Web Store is an add-on to Xsilva’s popular LightSpeed suite of retail tools that is purchased separately. LightSpeed combines a powerful point-of-sale (POS) solution for front-counter retail with back-office functions such as inventory management, order processing and billing. A visual database of customers and products can easily be built by capturing images on the fly with an iSight camera, or by dragging and dropping images from the desktop or the web.

LightSpeed exports to popular accounting software packages from Intuit and MYOB for both Mac and Windows, and integrates seamlessly with Intuit’s QuickBooks 2009 for Mac. LightSpeed also features USB hardware support for standard cash drawers, card readers and barcode readers that are operated by LightSpeed as one integrated solution.

Web Store 2.0 extends LightSpeed’s capabilities to e-commerce with features that include:

  • An administrative panel built right into the LightSpeed application
  • Search-engine-optimized (SEO) pages
  • Support for cross-selling related products
  • Support for product options and multiple images
  • Real-time credit card processing
  • Real-time shipping calculations for UPS, FedEx and USPS
  • Wish lists
  • Service repair order (SRO) lookups

LightSpeed Web Store 2.0 will be generally available in January 2009 and will be unveiled at the Macworld Conference and Expo taking place January 5 to 9 in San Francisco. Transition details for existing customers will be made available in early December.

7/9/2008

Xsilva Systems, makers of LightSpeed, the next-generation point-of-sale system for Mac, are opening the doors to their new St-Hubert Headquarters, the latest addition to the dynamic, up and coming Latin Quarter neighborhood of downtown Montreal.

Having experienced meteoric growth since launching in the summer of 2005, the Montreal-based software company will open its new headquarters, a beautiful three storey commercial building off the corner of St-Hubert and Maisonneuve, on Friday, July 18th. The new offices, more than three times larger than Xsilva's previous home, were acquired to better serve a robustly expanding base of thousands of international customers and accommodate its rapidly growing team, already 20 strong.

"We are absolutely thrilled to be able to move into this stunning new space, and it means a lot to be able to do it in Montreal," said Dax Dasilva, CEO. "It really represents the hard work of our entire team, and we expect that the coming years will be exciting ones both for Xsilva and for Montreal's tech community at large."

The opening of Xsilva's sleek, modern new workspace in close proximity to Quebec's three year old Grande Bibliothèque, along with the ongoing development of the nearby Îlot-Voyageur complex, represents the larger revitalization of the Latin Quarter/Berri-UQAM area. As the only independent tech business of its kind in the neighborhood, Xsilva hopes to give back to the community that nurtured its success and encourage other young entrepreneurs to set up shop in the area.

A Grand Opening Ceremony will be held on the evening of July 18th, beginning with a press conference and ribbon cutting ceremony and followed by a guided tour and cocktail social.

Xsilva Shows Touchscreen Capability for LightSpeed 2.5 at Macworld 2008

Next-generation retail solution leverages Cover Flow for touch interface

1/16/2008

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, USA - January 16, 2008 - Xsilva Systems, Inc. showed an updated version of LightSpeed 2.5 at Macworld Conference & Expo 2008 that uses a Cover Flow interface to make better use of touchscreen-enabled Mac point of sale stations.

“We recently released LightSpeed 2.5, which leveraged Leopard and iPhone to bring Point of Sale on the Mac to an exciting new level,” said Xsilva CEO, Dax Dasilva. “Now we're taking advantage of touchscreen technology to simplify retail sales in the LightSpeed browser and POS screen, and by expanding LightSpeed's use of Cover Flow.”

The updated LightSpeed 2.5, which will be released in late January, is compatible with touchscreen-enabled iMacs and Cinema Displays by TrollTouch, being shown at the Xsilva Macworld booth. A version of LightSpeed due in February will allow users to park transactions on the POS and return to them later by selecting them in a Cover Flow view, as well as allow users to browse documents to settle unpaid balances, initiate returns and reprint receipts.

“Xsilva has a forward-looking development roadmap that aims to offer retail business owners an evolving, intuitive and powerful POS solution on the Mac,” added Dasilva. “Touchscreen is an important direction for Xsilva, and we think retailers are going to love the new LightSpeed features we are presenting this year at Macworld.”

LightSpeed 2.5 Released

11/03/2008

Xsilva Systems, Inc. has released LightSpeed 2.5, a new version of the popular, easy-to-use Point of Sale (POS) solution on Mac OS X—with more reasons than ever for retailers and small businesses to choose Macintosh as their POS platform.

“With LightSpeed 2.5, Point of Sale on Mac gets even better,” said Xsilva CEO, Dax Dasilva. “Now retailers can view LightSpeed Stats on their iPhone to get the latest details on sales anywhere, anytime—and use Cover Flow in both the LightSpeed browser and POS screen to quickly and effortlessly find the product or customer information they need.”

LightSpeed 2.5 also debuts two highly requested features: Multi-Store Transfers for moving stock between store locations; and a Label Designer for custom product label templates.

LightSpeed 2.5 highlights:

  • iPhone Stats
  • Now retailers can track sales, payments, returns, and invoice count for the day, the week, the month or even the year— with LightSpeed Stats on their iPhone. They can also see which employees are clocked in at the store, when they started, and how much time they’ve spent on Jobs and Tasks. And contacting an employee directly is as easy as tapping their phone number or email address.

  • Cover Flow Interface
  • The same Cover Flow interface that makes finding information on iTunes and the iPhone fast and fun makes it easy to zero in on information in the LightSpeed Browser and on the LightSpeed POS screen.

  • Multi-Store Transfers
  • LightSpeed 2.5 makes it easy to transfer stock from one store’s database to another and receive stock with ease. Browsing and management tools make it easy to review ‘transfer in’ and ‘transfer out’ documents, run reports on inventory ‘in transit’ and export information to accounting software such as QuickBooks.

  • Label Designer
  • Now it’s easy to go beyond pre-made product label layouts and design your own custom labels. Want a use a different label size? Want to import a boutique logo? The new Label Designer provides easy-to-use graphical layout tools to create all types of product labels.

  • Pricing and Availability
  • A 30 Day Demo of LightSpeed 2.5 is available immediately from the download section of Xsilva.com. LightSpeed 2.5 can be purchased from LightSpeed resellers offering local LightSpeed expertise and support, or online at the Xsilva Web Store.

Xsilva Ships Web Store for LightSpeed 2 Point of Sale for Mac OS X

06/13/2007

- Next-Generation POS for Mac Gains New Tightly-Integrated Web Sales Tools -

MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA - June 13, 2007 - Xsilva Systems, Inc. today shipped LightSpeed Web Store, a tightly-integrated e-commerce module for LightSpeed 2, Xsilva's next-generation Point of Sale (POS) system on Mac OS X.

"With the LightSpeed Web Store, retail business owners can use their LightSpeed 2 Point of Sale system to sell their products online, and then download web orders right back into LightSpeed with a single click," explained Xsilva CEO, Dax Dasilva. "LightSpeed 2 plus the Web Store is Xsilva's irresistible new combo for retail and online sales on the Mac."

One-Click Updates

The LightSpeed Web Store lets business owners generate and maintain a fully-customizable PHP and CSS-based e-commerce site from their LightSpeed database, with a single click. Products are set up in web categories with special web descriptions, prices (if desired), and assigned searchable keywords. The Web Store can re-use the photos already saved in a LightSpeed database, simply by dragging and dropping images into the Browser. New product photos can be captured using an iSight camera.

Easy Order Processing

Web Orders are downloaded with a single-click and can be processed using LightSpeed's built-in credit card processing capability. Shoppers are matched with customer records in the database and automatically receive an email to alert them that their order has been received. If products are not in stock, the order requests can flow directly into LightSpeed's purchasing system.

Amazing Templates

LightSpeed Web Store ships with three professionally-designed templates that can be modified to suit any business. Or retailers can design their own CSS template to match an existing web site. Introducing a new item or advertising a new promotion on the Web Store, is as easy as dragging and dropping new header and sub-header graphics directly into LightSpeed.

Secure and Low-Maintenance

Since it doesn't require a live database connection, the LightSpeed Web Store is a very secure and low-maintenance e-commerce solution. Retailers can host their LightSpeed Web Store on any web host that supports PHP 5.1 with standard options enabled, or choose among a number of attractive hosting packages offered by official LightSpeed web host GammaStream Technologies (www.gammastream.com).

Pricing and Requirements

The LightSpeed Web Store is an optional module for LightSpeed 2, and requires a licensed LightSpeed 2 Point of Sale installation. The Web Store module retails for $899.00 USD, which includes free Web Store software updates until June 1st, 2008 for customers with an active Support and Upgrade Subscription. The LightSpeed Web Store does not include web hosting, customization, or the SSL security certificates required for secure credit card processing. The Web Store requires a web host that supports PHP 5.1 with standard options enabled.

Availability

LightSpeed Web Store is available immediately, and can be purchased through an Xsilva-Authorized LightSpeed Reseller listed
here or online here. Your LightSpeed Reseller can arrange for a demonstration of the LightSpeed Web Store on Xsilva's demonstration Web Store servers.

The resellers, from as far away as Denmark, France, and Mexico, as well as from across Canada and the U.S., were certified at the second LightSpeed Certification Camp, Summer 2007 Edition, held recently in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

A previous group of 43 resellers was certified at the first LightSpeed Certification Camp last October.

"We are amazed by the response of resellers to our training events and the level of dedication they bring to LightSpeed POS solutions in this flourishing new market for the Mac," said Xsilva CEO, Dax Dasilva. "Resellers have always played a very significant role in the growth of our product, and it's very rewarding to be able to meet them, get their feedback on how they're promoting and integrating LightSpeed, and hear their ideas for LightSpeed's future development."

17 Sessions and 20+ Workshops

The latest LightSpeed Certification Camp featured two tracks: Advanced and Basic, to accommodate varying levels of familiarity with the software. Resellers participated in two days of training sessions, workshops, and roundtable discussions to earn a Level I or Level II Certification as a LightSpeed POS solution reseller. Seventeen sessions and more than twenty workshops were presented by members of the Xsilva team-along with special guest presentations by OpenBase CEO Scott Keith; Michael and Jeremy Sacket of GammaStream Technologies; and event sponsors Axia; Merchant Warehouse; and IronGate SMC.

Work Hard, Play Hard

Continuing the Xsilva tradition of infusing business with fun, the most recent LightSpeed Certification Camp was held at the world-class Hotel Godin and featured social events, such as a gala cocktail reception with performances by Montreal singer Athesia.

"The Xsilva staff are the most unique and friendly software developers I've ever had the pleasure of working with," said Patrick Brown of Brown Computer Solutions of Brattleboro, VT. "Every person at Xsilva appears to be passionate about their work and fun to work with, too. It's not often that I say I had a great time at a software conference!"

The Future of Retail

Xsilva continues to invest in both its software and its reseller network to keep its LightSpeed POS solution ahead of the market. So far this year, Xsilva has released LightSpeed 2 with a revamped POS screen and all-new Browser; Phase One of a Multi-Store roadmap; and new Web Store module for e-commerce.

Planned for later this year are additional product innovations and more reseller events to help spread the word about this powerful, new Mac-based POS solution.

"It's very exciting to see how our resellers and customers are taking advantage of the power, simplicity and flexibility of LightSpeed," said Dasilva. "We're already planning our next Certification Camp, with even more compelling training, features and solutions."

Xsilva Unveils LightSpeed 2 Point of Sale and Web Store for Mac OS X

01/10/2007

San Francisco, CA - Xsilva Systems Inc today unveiled LightSpeed 2, a Universal version of Xsilva's next-generation multi-user Point of Sale system for Mac OS X. LightSpeed 2 features a tightly-integrated Web Store module, a revamped 'floating' Point of Sale interface, an all-new Browser with live previews, and multi-store inventory lookups.

"With LightSpeed 2, we are pleased to introduce an Intel-native next-generation Point of Sale system for Mac OS X." said Xsilva CEO, Dax Dasilva. "LightSpeed 2 offers powerful new multi-user sales and inventory tools to retail and small business customers, and now integrates online tools that let businesses sell their products online without maintaining separate databases of products, images and orders."

"Apple offers an award-winning line of systems, software and support to help small businesses increase business productivity," said Ron Okamoto, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "We're thrilled that Xsilva has updated LightSpeed so that its small business customers can now take advantage of the power of our Intel-based Macs."

The LightSpeed Web Store lets business owners generate and maintain a fully-customizable PHP and CSS-based e-commerce site from their LightSpeed database with a single-click. Orders can be downloaded with a single-click and processed using LightSpeedŐs built-in credit card processing.

LightSpeed 2's popular 'floating' Point of Sale interface now features image previews of related accessories when ringing up sales, can perform multi-store inventory lookups, features customizable color themes, and can run video ads when idle.

The all-new Browser features live previews of products, customers and sales documents, including product and customer images that can be captured on-the-fly with an iSight camera. Browser searches are now based on leading-edge server-side SQL queries, meaning that vast databases can be browsed at lightspeed.

Pricing and Availability

LightSpeed 2 and LightSpeed Web Store will ship in February 2007 and can be purchased through an Xsilva-Authorized Reseller listed at www.xsilva.com/resellers.php or online at www.xsilva.com/store.php. The LightSpeed Web Store will be sold separately as an optional module.

Xsilva LightSpeed 1.1.1 Update

3/15/2006

Xsilva is pleased to announce LightSpeed 1.1.1, a significant update to our LightSpeed 1.1 release, featuring an enhanced Tracker, Customer Groups and more.

LightSpeed 1.1.1 includes a revamped Tracker with alerts, date ranges, and filters, Customer Groups with advanced marketing search capabilities, an enhanced Accounts Receivable window, updates to Cost Averaging and Purchasing, Troubleshooting tools, Jobs and Timesheets enhancements, POS optimizations and receipt additions, new Gross Profit and Sales Summary reports, improved readability for all reports, a new look for the LightSpeed Toolbar and numerous fixes and optimizations.

Revamped Tracker

LightSpeed customers have adopted the Tracker as a way to keep on top of their daily sales and service activities, but requested that it be able to track everything more intelligently, with alerts, date ranges and filters.

The new Tracker delivers on this promise, so that for example, a Service department can create a Tracker that finds all SROs (repairs) of the status 'On Bench' that have not been modified in over 48 hours, or in other words, have gone 'stale'. This Tracker can also be set to 'Alerted' so that it appears red and bolded in the Tracker list.

Sales will want to use the 'Orders with Received Backorders to Reserve' and 'Orders with Reserved Backorders to Invoice' to stay on top of backorders and may want to use the new follow up date options in the Customer Calls and Notes drawers to set dates on which they want to follow up with customers. The Tracker can then be restricted to a date range to show who needs to be followed up with during that time frame.

Sales can also use the Tracker's new filtering ability to find invoices that contained a particular product within a particular date range so that they can contact customers to remind them of warranty renewal or training opportunities.

Customer Groups

LightSpeed 1.1.1 allows the creation of multiple Customer Groups that can be assigned to Customers and Contacts using simple checkboxes. For example, one Contact may fit into the groups 'Friend', 'Reseller' and 'Sports Fan'.

Later, when you want to plan marketing activities to particular intersections of those groups, you can use the new Customer Advanced Find and Customer Browser to find the relevant Customers and Contacts and then print mailing labels or export a call or email list.

Accounts Receivable

Accounts Receivable now includes a customizable Customer drawer that lists all Customers who owe money and several other enhancements.

Availability

Xsilva LightSpeed 1.1.1 is available on our Downloads page to all registered LightSpeed users and as a Full Install or Update Install for our LightSpeed Trial users.

Several chapters of our PDF manual are now available.

The new Inventory Reservation system allows a salesperson to reserve inventory on an Order. When the salesperson goes to invoice the Order, a dialog box allows the user to release the inventory so that it can be invoiced.

Orders are updated when requests are received, reserved, invoiced or canceled so that Orders can be better tracked in the Tracker. This enables a new Sales and Purchasing workflow that makes it simple for salespeople to watch for Orders where products have been received and easily reserve or invoice the products. Purchasing now only receives requests when there is no inventory in stock to reserve or invoice.

The Inventory Reservation system can be enabled in the Company Setup panel but is turned off by default on upgraded LightSpeed installations. It is recommended for any business where inventory is held for customers.

Credit Card Processing on VeriSign

Credit Card Processing can now be configured through the VeriSign payment gateway using the VeriSign Setup panel. A new 'Process Credit Card...' button on the Payments tab of the Invoice window enables users to process credit card payments through the configured VeriSign payment gateway.

Please contact Heartland Payment Systems or Axia to get set up with credit card processing.

Product Size/Color Matrix

LightSpeed 1.0.3 adds a new Size/Color Matrix to the Product window for clothing and apparel-based businesses that lets these business owners create Product records and adjust inventory levels in a convenient grid format.

Multi-Currency Support

LightSpeed can now save Quotes, Order, SROs and Invoices in a currency other than the default currency by choosing a foreign currency from the new Currency popup menu. Clicking the 'Total' header on a Multi-Currency sales document displays a currency converter that allows you to see the total in your default currency and lets the user adjust the exchange rate or total to reflect the current value of the sales document. The Browser displays all amounts in the default currency and new Multi-Currency Sales reports break invoices down by currency.

Selling prices and costs on line items on a Multi-Currency invoice are not converted into the foreign currency. It is recommended you create a separate set of Product records for product pricing in a foreign currency, set the prices manually when invoicing in a foreign currency or create Pricing Levels for foreign currencies that you operate in often.

Xsilva LightSpeed 1.0.2 Update

11/22/2005

Xsilva LightSpeed reaches a new level of utility and refinement with version 1.0.2, featuring the all-new Serial Number History tool, Commission Reports with reusable presets, Invoicing Splits, Customers assigned to Salespeople, selectable Pricing Levels, Packing Slips, expanded Product Web tab for the upcoming LightSpeed Web Store, Show Current Users window, eight new Inventory History and Serial Number History reports, and over a dozen refinements to Purchasing, Customers, Invoicing and Browser.

Serial Number History tool instantly finds where a Serial Number has been referenced across all Invoices, POs, SROs and Inventory History records, and can even perform a GSX Lookup when GSX is configured.

The new Commission report category in the Reporting window allows Commission reports to be run on sales results with commission calculated at a specified rate, filtering by any combination of criteria or range of discounting. A Commission Report Presets drawer allows presets to be saved of specified commission rates, discount ranges and product filters.

Invoices can be split between two salespeople using the Split dialog box, shown when clicking the user name on an Invoice and selecting 'Split...' from the popup menu, by loading a customer who has been assigned to another user, or by converting from a Quote/Order/SRO created by another user to an Invoice. Customers can be assigned to a user using the Salesperson popup menu in the Customer window.

Pricing Levels can be set up in Pricing Levels Setup to store Costs in addition to multiple levels of Selling Prices for products, and can now be selected from a popup menu on Quotes/Orders/SROs and Invoices when multiple Pricing Levels are available for a product. In an Apple Reseller environment, this could be perfect for storing and accessing the Stock or Exchange price for an Apple part.

Xsilva LightSpeed 1.0.2 is available on our Downloads page to all registered LightSpeed users and as a Full Install or Update Install for our LightSpeed Trial users.

The Product and GSX chapters of our PDF manual are also now available, with several additional chapters to come this week.
